Okay, I but got a good look at my frame last dark. Everything looks solid ... except..spring hanger expanse in the rear..both sides seem pretty bad..at least to me. :( It has several holes eatin' through it effectually the the front and rear back spring hangers. :( :( The "seam" where frame pieces go together is rusted through for about 8 - 12 inches on right side in front of the front rear hanger. Is this repairable. Anybody used the rear frame plates from MORE. Whatever other ideas. I would post pix but I can't seem to do that right now.

If I can get another (used) frame that is in better shape what do they get for? I tin can't afford a new frame even though this would be the time to do information technology.

From the pics of the body pull I woudl say that is an excellent frame. Espically compared to mine.

It looks like from your description that the problem is more on the top and bottom surfaces of the tube as opposed to the sides. Perchance a film would help.

But I would call up that if that is the case then it would be better to strap the frame in these areas, After grinding out the rot. This would envolve the utilize of something like a strip of 1/four"x2" and and so bending it to follow the profile of the frame and welding in the edge with a skip weld pattern.

If you lot were to doa laminate of ii thicknesses. Then you could drill and tap for the hangers one time all of the welding was finished.

Too this will brand your frame stronger as most of the strees in the frame is carried in the pinnacle and lesser plaes of the tube when it is put in bending. It is an engineering thing, but it it actually much better to bulid the top and bototm as opposed to the sides. Equally long as in that location is enough side meat to continue the box department from twisting in torsen.

The MORE frame plates are good pieces, luckily I haven't needed them...yet. They just do the sides though, if y'all need to do the meridian and/or bottom, y'all'll demand to fabricate that. It does sound similar fixable stuff.

Truck,

I have used the front MORE frame plates on two frames, but not rears. I have seen the rears in person, though. The rears do include bent plates to place under the rear shackle hanger expanse, but not under the expanse shown in your pics. While they'll definitely add strength, you'll accept to fab something for the expanse around the bound optics.

In that location is good news....just look at how easy it is to become to the capture nuts for the leap shackle hangers. Definitely practise that earlier you fix all of that. The bolts will intermission when to try to remove them. Other than that, it looks like you'll need to make patch plates for the bad areas.....that is , if the inside isn't near rusted through in other areas. And, Matt D had a frame he was selling a while dorsum, I don't know the condition.

By the time you buy steel at the prices now, I'd expect REAL difficult for a new frame.

The time and effort you lot'll put into fixing that volition be pretty considerable I'd bet and you'll kicking yourself later on for non getting the frame every bit skilful as possible while y'all take it all apart.

While what was said about the top and bottom being most important is technically truthful, the sides practise lend considerable strength to the chassis in bending and are VERY important in withstanding torsion loads.

Something worth noting on the MORE plates: "Will fit CJ-8 simply will non extend all the way to the rear crossmember"

Seems like that will leave you curt of where you need to patch around the rear spring hanger.

MORE plates

Truck,
It doesn't audio similar the more plates are going to help y'all out for the kinda damage thats there. I would say the strapping idea sounds the best. That is 1 of the cleanest rusty frames I've seen. Do ya have a welder?

You lot can rebuild it....

Take a expect and see if you still call back it is repairable.

If it's metal it's repairable.....My frame had one bad spot on the bottom flange. I cleaned upwardly the area where the two pieces of frame overlap so i had a dainty direct surface to weld to. I and then went to a canvas metal store and had them shear me a piece of 3/16" plate 3/four" inch wide and welded it in place. It cost me zippo subsequently I told the metallic shop guy what I was working on. The hardest office was welding it in place. The hardest part was getting used to the olfactory property of burning flesh...specially your own....Welding upside down takes getting used to.

I would say on you frame you could do a similar repair on the bottom flange, then make your self a template for the side plate that follows the contour of frame rails. Then weld information technology all upwards.

if it were me, I'd repair it rather than replace the whole frame....of course I'm broke and have more time than money.....
